AMD A8-3870K – Llano easy overclocking
Conclusion
The new unlocked models in A8 and A6 series are good, but in my opinion very late decision. I think these two processors should have been part of the initial range announced form AMD. Given that we expect the new Trinity family very soon, these APUs are a bit late. However, if you are tempted by them, I personally recommend you jump to the A6 model. Processor part is identical to that of 3870K, and generally Llano overclocking is limited primarily by the architecture than any other factor, so you will almost certainly achieve the same results when overclocking as A8. At the same time the graphics core of 3870K looks seriously limited by memory, something that will be valid in a much lesser extent in 3670K, given that it is weakened by a deactivated pipeline. And 100% overclock on the graphics part sounds pretty nice. Along with this it is better to look for a motherboard that allows you to manually set the multiplier above DDR3-1866, otherwise the “easy” part in overclocking, which is the unlocked multiplier, is going to be countered.
